whether I love or hate this idea. I mean a parking lot with spaces that are wider and easier to park in with better security sounds appealing (as I am unabashedly an old-lady driver with notoriously poor parallel parking abilities), but the feminist side of me is screaming that this is gender profiling at its worst. "Different sense of distance", my arse.
From the BBC:"A shopping centre in China's Hebei province has built a car park with wider spaces that it says is designed especially to suit women drivers. The women-only car park in Shijiazhuang city is also painted in pink and light purple to appeal to female tastes. Official Wang Zheng told AFP news agency the car park was meant to cater to women's "strong sense of colour and different sense of distance". The parking bays are one metre (3ft) wider than normal spaces, he said.
The Wanxiang-Tiancheng shopping centre had also "installed signs and security monitoring equipment that corresponded more to women's needs", he said. The Global Times website says female parking attendants have been trained to help guide women drivers into their parking spaces. The bays also have extra lighting.

The Creep Factor is worse than I thought...
I was taking down some of the pictures on my walls cause they are like falling down and I am no longer a teenage girl I thought, gee, I should probably remove these pictures from when lotr first came out from my walls. BAD IDEA. VERY BAD IDEA. I have now discovered why the Baby Cat sits on the dresser at the head of my bed and stares up at the wall. ITS CAUSE THERE IS A FREAKING HOLE IN MY WALL!!!! Its like big enough for a squirrel or something to come out of. Anyways, completely freaked out by this and am not sure how I will survive three more nights when I swear the animals are coming to get me. shudder.

100% Vindicated
Where is the rum?
So I recently discovered the Alliance Francaise de Washington (which seems v.v. interesting and sponsored the book event I went to recently at the National Museum of Women in the Arts). Anyways, they appear to be throwing a rum-tasting event, which I hope will be led by a pirate. Seems like the perfect culinary event for Esmee.
We're down to the wire
Alright, it is almost christmas and almost esmee's b-day and while i have some ideas for presents, i have not really accomplished much on the shopping front. who is getting a cardigan for la mere? do you guys have gifts for her yet? and le pere? i was thinking of getting him the book the looming tower about 9/11. he probably already read it but doesn't remember so it might be good for him. or maybe we could get him some sort of history channel/pbs series on dvd for him to watch on his huge tv. also i really need to know what you guys are wishing for. i thought of one present i would like. please don't make fun of me as i know it is very cheesy -- The french women for all seasons engagement calendar. i could use a little inspiration to be fabulous. and the jcrew pjs. maybe a pair of slippers? i also know that each of you are wishing for a dvd this christmas but we need to convo to make sure the other one hasn't got it already.
RH trailer!
So many movies to get excited about that are based on some of my favorite childhood reading (Sherlock Homes, Edith Hamilton/Bulfinch's Greek Mythology, etc) and now Robin Hood!. Must check out the new teaser trailer. It looks pretty awesome what with RC's slow-mo war whoop and all. Not exactly sure WTF is going on (is that the battle of Hastings? some event in the 100 yrs war? why do they appear to be fighting over the White Cliffs of Dover?) but it looks good. (And RC looks good. like almost back to LA confidential good. props to what's his face for getting him in shape for the role) And CB plays Maid Marian who as you know has been my favorite character ever since I got the medieval castle lego set for Christmas that year and always wanted my lego girl to be MM. ps. charles, it appears that MS is going to be in everything now (as you have obviously pointed out to me many times in the past), but maybe you should cast him in your thing??

In which LG explains her new tour...
I think we truly must be related. I mean she appears to combine Esmee's interest in performance art with my obsession with evolution and the apocalypse.
"It's part pop show, part performance art, part fashion installation. It came about because as an artist, as a writer, as a woman, I feel I've evolved so much.
My evolution is from the beginning of time, so I start as a cell [she shows me a costume like a geodesic dome], and then I become a vertebrate, and then I become a full animal, and there's the birth of the economy, and trade and war, and then it's the Apocalypse. Because we as a society are taught politically and religiously that the Apocalypse is coming, it's on its way. But what I'm saying with my show is, ‘We're there right now: this is the Apocalypse.' The fact that we're surrounded by cement and we've already killed everything means the Apocalypse has happened.
So the idea for me is to give a sense of repose and solace to my fans, that we're here, we did it already, and now it's about accepting where we are and looking more joyfully into the future. And then the Apocalypse is over and the stage becomes very minimal and all that's left is me with a piano, in the middle of the destruction."
