Little bit excited

Um, people started lining up to get in to this bar to watch the game about three hours early. Seriously they are NUTS about their hockey. I'm pretty sure I would get killed for being an American if I went into any bar here today.

Oh Canada

Dear Sisters,

It is rather incredible that for once I actually feel like my life is becoming an adventure and I'm not just reading about say Keira's amazing life in Elle or something. I have a car, a prius, which is actually the worst snow driving car I have ever been in, but happily after many high school years of ever so slowly skidding into that one tree on school street, I'm pretty good at driving through horrible slush (um, not sure that they really understand the concept of plowing here. Esp out by the studio where I work which seems to be near like shipyards or something). Also great is my condo which is adorable. I'm sitting at my kitchen table and looking out the window to my patio where I can see the snow falling in giant flakes which is very pretty. Everything is very clean and modern and my bed is heavenly. THe fluffiest most amazing pillows you can imagine. The bathtub is huge and i very comfortably soaked last night after two long days I really needed it. Although I haven't done much driving yet, I have not gotten lost, which I am pretty proud of. Last night I stopped at the grocery store (or market as some people say) that is no joke called "Loblaws" J was explaining it to me and MVH last night and couldn't help herself but mutter "Bob Loblaw" which I doubt MVH got but I thought was hysterical (and if you don't get the reference, i recommend re-watching all of arrested development). It is a HUGE supermarket with lots of yummy food and i treated myself to things like good olives, a quiche, some really good cheese and such. This morning I wandered out to find coffee and got a croissant as well. I made it almost up to queen west (the street with all the cute shops) but it was snowing pretty hard and my nose was getting cold and my hair was getting very wet so I decided to retreat back to the soho met and hopefully its not snowing tomorrow and i can explore properly. Much better to be holed up inside watching the snow with my copy of elle and my cup of warm coffee!! Later today I'm going over to J's to help her bake a cake for the daughter of one of our co-workers, and then tomorrow I will probably join her and W to go watch the hockey final somewhere which should be fun. Apparently if I am asked where I am from, I am absolutely only to say Boston, which is acceptable because Boston likes hockey. under no circumstances am I to say I am from LA. Also, in my wanderings I passed the "wayne gretzky bar". seriously. anyways, I haven't even gotten into talking about working in the prod office so I will detail that later. Just wanted to give you gals some updates. Its pretty freakin awesome though. I like that we're all being more world-travelers these days (me in TO, D to Haiti, E to LA). We need more adventure in our lives.
xoxo C
PS. yes, I really do pass the hockey hall of fame on my way to work. oh canada.

Should I use this for my dating profile?

Terrific article in NYT on Victorian personal ads. Including this gem:

"A young lady of 18, wealthy, pretty and agreeable, wants a husband. Not finding any one of her acquaintance who suits her, she has concluded to take this method of discovering one. The happy gentleman must be wealthy, stylish, handsome and fascinating. None other need apply. "

I think I should tweak it and use it for my profile....

I wish we had holidays like this

From the BBC: Today is Old Women's Day in Germany, a day where according to tradition, women run around cutting off men's ties.

Submarine Symphonika

This is the cutest video ever. I love the child string section. I also want every single dress she wears in the video.

Diary That Inspired Faulkner Discovered

This is really interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/11/books/11faulkner.html Makes me want to re-read The Sound and the Fury.

The Good Wife

Charles got me to watch The Good Wife for the first time tonight, and although there are many reasons it is totally awesome, all I needed to know was that it involves Dan Rydell. Oh Josh Charles, I am so happy you're working again. And with such awesome women.

Winter Olympics

Yeah. Somehow I forgot the Olympics were this year. Still confused by this whole every 2 years thing instead of every 4 years. Anyways, thought I post an Apolo Ohno shot for you Esmee.

Definitely not going outside today

My old and creaky house sounds like it is going to collapse around me. When the wind gusts, it comes in through the drafty windows and blows things around in my room.

Then the National Weather Service issued this warning. (I am not kidding. This is not made up. They actually said this.)

"Special Statement from National Weather Service....

...EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS MORNING FOR THE BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON REGION...THE EASTERN PANHANDLE OF WEST VIRGINIA...

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THIS MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON. LIFE THREATENING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS HAVE DEVELOPED RAPIDLY ACROSS THE BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON REGION THIS MORNING.

AT 7:27 AM THIS MORNING...A WIND GUST WAS RECORDED TO 60 MPH AT MANASSAS VIRGINIA. NUMEROUS WIND GUSTS OVER 40 MPH HAVE OBSERVED AROUND THE REGION ALONG WITH WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS.

IF YOU GET STRANDED IN YOUR VEHICLE...DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR TO TRY TO WALK FOR ASSISTANCE...YOU CAN QUICKLY BECOME DISORIENTED IN WIND DRIVEN SNOW AND COLD. THIS STORM WILL SUBSIDE EARLY THIS EVENING...SO WAIT IN YOUR CAR FOR EMERGENCY HELP TO ARRIVE. PERIODICALLY RUN YOUR ENGINE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES EACH HOUR FOR HEAT. ENSURE YOUR EXHAUST PIPE IS CLEARED OF SNOW AND ICE. CRACK YOUR WINDOWS TO AVOID CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. TIE A COLORED CLOTH TO YOUR CARS ANTENNA TO BE VISIBLE TO RESCUERS. FROM TIME- TO-TIME...MOVE YOUR ARMS...LEGS...FINGERS...AND TOES TO KEEP BLOOD CIRCULATING."

Happy anti-V day

I think I've seen that one...

You know, that movie about the end of the world with Dennis Quaid, where the east coast is swallowed up by snow and wolves chase people in Manhattan. well, cnn is reporting a coyote was captured in Harlem. cue the archangels.
