No lobsters were hurt in making this movie
I cannot wait to go see Julie and Julia. I loved that book! (thanks esmee for giving it to me as a presents yrs ago.) Found this article in the NY Times on the art of filming food to be quite intriguing and enlightening. My favorite bit is as follows - "On the set of “Julie & Julia,” the lobsters posed a special challenge. Ms. Adams appears to plunge two live lobsters into a pot of steaming water. The steam is actually a cool mist, and just off camera representatives from the American Humane Association monitored the creatures’ health."

London calling
mes soeurs, so as wedding bells will not be ringing for me in october, i need to do something else with my vacation time. 2 weeks a la casa seems a bit much, so i was thinking it would be fun to first spend a week in the pit of despair (that part, maybe not so much fun with la mere constantly wanting to discuss wedding plans) and then the 3 of us should take a trip! i was thinking london b/c my moment outside on the sleety, foggy Heathrow tarmac left me wanting to see more. we could pretend that we were going to LA to see Charles but actually meet up in GB. i'm envisioning 5 days in drafty hotels, eating full english breakfasts, drowning in tea and gazing at art in the Tate Modern while esmee takes amazing photos of the city and charles lands a job at working title. what say you?

this might be kind of awesome...
http://blogs.amctv.com/the-prisoner/
I had heard they were making this and kind of rolled my eyes (oh god, not another remake of an old television show) but the trailer has kind of won me over. Ian McKellan is pretty much always a total badass and Jim Caviezel is SOOO scary due to his inherent insanity-I mean, anybody who thinks they can play Jesus is clearly not all there, and of course the Mel Gibson association is just icing on the crazy-cake. But, as you guys know, I am a sucker for paranoid, conspiracy-theory, borderline scifi thrillers.
Oh and Charles, I heard they were actually gonna make the pilot for The Station. Excited?

Unlease HRC
Please let the president come to his senses and get Hillary to help him out with health care reform. We need a public plan! We need someone brilliant with initiative who is unafraid of criticism to get reform started! (ps. rumor has it the prez will be at my hospital tomorrow probably to promote something healthcare related. tres excited.)

Not only do we work for Elle in our sleep, but apparently we have also been moonlighting for Go Fug Yourself
"So I finally saw Twilight. (I just opened the Netflix envelope and there it was!) Let me tell you, NO ONE should watch that movie alone. Not because it's scary. But because so many sarcastic comments will occur to you throughout that the lack of an audience for them will quite possibly cause your head to explode. I had to resort to texting people things like, "OMG. WHAT? NO. SPARKLES! Terrible."

Why we need the surgeon general
Oh, innocent times before we knew the dangers of smoking during pregnancy and children using plastic bags as toys. Scroll down to clip 11 (not really sure why it appears to have korean subtitles, but hey) to see my absolute favorite scene from season 2.

Too bad they aren't playing the west coast or i would go. they are playing the complete Lost and Gone Forever album. I think I probably still know the words to every song by heart.

What?!?
Greetings from NY!
(these photos were taken with a crappy little samsung digital camera since I didn't really want to drag my nice expensive nikon to a rock concert up near Harlem late at night) (although it really wasn't sketchy where we were. I swear.)
Dodie, sorry I didn't get back to you but I didn't see the post until I was home. Of course we left Saturday morning so it wouldn't have done much good anyways. Hopefully next time I'll have some more advanced notice, not just a day.
Sonic Youth concert was awesome, they had these crazy backdrops that lit up and it was in this old church building thing and stuffed to the brim with New York hipsters. Seriously you should have seen the crowd, it was kind of insane. I have never seen so many UNS' and skinny jeans in my life. It was kind of hysterical.
Went to the MoMA which was awesome. It was seriously like my Modern Art History class in person, I'm pretty sure I shrieked every time I entered a new room. (Frida! Warhol! Pollock! Holy shit it's Starry Night! Picasso's blue period everywhere!!! A Cy Twombly painting that doesn't suck!)
Anyways, at some point we'll all have to do New York together. Miss you guys!
